Mrs. LaVeta M. Stith, 92 of Lewistown, Mo. and formerly of Williamstown, Mo. died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 3:58 AM at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
The daughter of Francis M. and Laura A. Shannon Clifton was born on October 20, 1919 at Williamstown, Missouri.
She was united in marriage to Cecil Bevans who preceded her in death in 1963. She later married Russell D. Stith on February 14, 1971 at Providence Baptist Church near Williamstown. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2004.
LaVeta was a member of Providence Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to the 3-6 year old children. She was also a school teacher at the Williamstown School and retired after 34 years from the Missouri Division of Family Services. She served as President of the Lewis County Memorial Post #578 Auxillary and also Missouri Department President of the American Legion Auxillary.
She is survived by two step-children, Denton Stith & wife Debbie of Hannibal, Mo. and Denise Grosvenor & husband Jeff of Jefferson City, Mo.; five step-grandchildren, Ryan, Blake & Chad Grosvenor and Kirk & Jackie Handy; nieces & nephews, Linda Plenge, Joann Jinkens, Marjorie Heelan, Terry Triplet, Robert Clifton, Leroy Hunziker, Lavon Hood, Norma Toering, Karen Donahue and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three sisters, Alice Kirchner, Ella Hunziker & Dorothy Feldman and four brothers, John, Elmer, Robert and Nyle Clifton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Providence Baptist Church near Williamstown with Rev. Joe Pike officiating with burial in the Providence Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 PM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown.
Pallbearers: Quentin Curry, Rusty Hunziker, Jeff Grosvenor, David Plenge, John Plenge and John David Clifton.
Memorials may be made to the Lewis County Memorial Post #578 Auxillary, Providence Cemetery or the Fairmont Cemetery.
