Ruby G. Janney

Ruby G. Janney, 102, of Canton, Missouri died at the Lewis County Nursing Home on Monday, March 4, 2013.

Ruby was born on November 30, 1910, in Taylor, Missouri, a daughter of Ben A. and Hazel Schenks Brandt.

Ruby was united in marriage to Louis Janney of Canton on December 28, 1928. Louis preceded her in death on July 3, 1970.

Ruby grew up in LaGrange, Missouri, where she attended school and graduated from LaGrange High School. In high school she enjoyed participating in the sports of basketball and tennis. Ruby spent most of her adult life in Canton and worked at several businesses in downtown Canton. She worked for over 50 years in the family paint and building supply store, a business she founded. She enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Europe and also to Japan. She made numerous trips to Texas and California as well as other places in the states. She began painting after her husband’s death and painted hundreds of still-life’s and landscapes which are very much enjoyed by her family.

Ruby is survived by her three children, Betty Smith of Missouri City, Texas; Robert (Dixie) Janney of Canton, Missouri; and Dorothy English of Canton, Missouri; eight grandchildren; sixteen great- grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and their wives, and a son-in-law Robert Smith.

Services will be held at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton with visitation at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7th, 2013 followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Kinney officiating with burial at Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton.

Pallbearers: David Gaither, Jeffrey Janney, Jesse Uhlmeyer, Rick Janney, Nicholas Janney and Joseph Little.

The family has requested that memorials may be made to the Canton R-V elementary art department in honor of her love of art.
